Code 39: outdated or still useful

Code 39 encodes letters, digits and a few symbols and tolerates errors, which is why many older warehouse programs still use it. The downside is that it is wider than Code 128 for the same data.

For a new label system pick Code 128; if you already use Code 39 there is no rush to replace it, scanners keep reading it.
